The Somerset Hills Department of Special Services provides a full range of specialized program options from pre-school through high school. Program options are determined individually, remaining mindful of the need to educate students within the Least Restrictive Environment. Regular education with supplementary aids and services, in-class support, resource center support are all a part of the full continuum of placement options available within the district. The district also has a class for preschool children with disabilities, inclusion preschool classes and an elementary self-contained classroom. When appropriate, program options outside of the district are considered. Child Study Team members include learning consultants, psychologists and social workers. All classes are taught by certified teachers of students with disabilities who are also certified in the required general education area. Paraprofessionals are utilized to assist teachers and children as needed. Related services providers include speech and language specialists, occupational therapists and physical therapists. A board certified behavior analyst is available as needed.

Department Announcements Special Education Extended School Year ProgramThis summer, the Somerset Hills Special Education Extended School Year Program will share services with the Bedminster Department of Special Services. The ESY program will be held at the Bedminster Elementary School from July 5, 2011 through August 11, 2011. Classes will meet Monday-Thrursday. Please contact Ms. Teresa Vaught at 908-234-0768 x217 if you have any questions regarding this year's Extended School Year Program.
New Supervisor of Special ServicesEffective July 1, 2011 Ms. Teresa Vaught will assume the position of Supervisor of Special Services for the Somerset Hills/Bedminster Departments of Special Services. Ms. Vaught's office will be in the District Administration Bldg. located at 25 Olcott Avenue.
